I am never satisfied - we are very good, but we can improve.

Preview [2]

Betting: United's official betting partner bwin price a win for the Reds at 2.00, with a West Ham victory 3.75 and a draw 3.25. The Hammers’ recent knack of leaking two goals apiece against Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool makes a 2-0 away win at 10.00 look inviting.

Last time at West Ham: Worries about Robin van Persie’s absence were soon eased with Wayne Rooney’s first-half brace – including a stunning long-range effort reminiscent of David Beckham’s famous strike at Wimbledon in 1996 – giving the visitors all three points.

Opposition Boss: A household name in English football, Sam Allardyce rose to prominence when establishing Bolton Wanderers’ Premier League status and leading them into Europe. After spells at Newcastle and Blackburn, 'Big Sam' took the West Ham reins in June 2011 and steered the Hammers to promotion into the top tier at the end of his first season. After finishing 10th and 13th in the last two terms, his team are currently eighth.

Rivals Watch: League leaders Chelsea travel to struggling Aston Villa, while second-placed Manchester City host relegation-threatened Hull City - both at 15:00 on Saturday. Meanwhile, Southampton will hope to take maximum points away from a QPR side now under Les Ferdinand and Chris Ramsey's stewardship. The games on live TV in the UK have Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal locking horns in the North London derby at 12:45, before Liverpool visit Everton in their local battle at 17:30 (all times GMT).

Match Officials: Mark Clattenburg will be in charge Sunday, with Simon Beck and Jake Collin serving as his assistants. Andre Marriner will be the game’s fourth official.

Match Info: Sunday 8 February, 16:15 GMT. Follow live text at manutd.com/matchblog while MUTV has live audio between its pre-match and post-match shows.

Scene-Setter: Fresh from a comfortable victory over Cambridge United in the FA Cup replay, the Reds will look to beat West Ham for the second time this season in order to retain third place. An away victory at Upton Park would further dent the Hammers’ hopes of qualifying for European football next term.

Form Guide: Tuesday’s 3-0 win against Cambridge and last weekend’s win over Leicester send Louis van Gaal and his players to London with a spring in their step. Furthermore, the Reds have been tough competitors when away from home over the winter, going unbeaten since early November. West Ham, meanwhile, approach the game slightly wounded after last week’s 2-0 away loss to Liverpool. Having previously marked themselves as serious contenders for a top-four spot with a five-game unbeaten streak, Sunday’s opponents have won only one of their last six league clashes.

Team News: Adnan Januzaj and Luke Shaw missed the midweek action after picking up knocks but Louis van Gaal stated on Friday that Michael Carrick is now the only sidelined player. West Ham’s mood at Liverpool last week was worsened when Andy Carroll limped off with a knee complaint, while centre-back pairing James Collins and Winston Reid suffered hamstring issues. Fellow defenders James Tomkins and Carl Jenkinson also missed out, but manager Allardyce hopes to be able to field at least two members of his regular back four. Cheikhou Kouyate could be in contention after returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty, while Diafra Sakho may also be available.

Van Gaal Looks Forward to Preston Trip

Louis van Gaal is eagerly anticipating Manchester United's FA Cup fifth-round tie at Preston North End after his team saw off Cambridge United 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Preston caused a shock by overcoming cup experts Sheffield United at Bramall Lane to set up a Monday 16 February date at Deepdale - United's first competitive fixture at the Lancashire ground since February 1972 when the Reds beat the Lilywhites 2-0 in the FA Cup.

Van Gaal's men are on the road for a third successive round against lower-league opposition and the boss is relishing the prospect of taking the club a step closer to Wembley.

"I think it's always difficult to beat a lower team and you cannot do it well," the manager explained to MUTV. "In spite of the 3-0 result tonight, you never do it well because everybody expects more so I am pleased we have to play against Preston North End now but also I know it shall be very difficult to beat them. Preston beat great cup fighters in Sheffield United. I have heard from Ryan [Giggs] they are very good fighters and Preston beat them 3-1 at home. So Preston will not be a piece of cake."

United are among the favourites to go all the way in the competition and van Gaal is in a bullish mood after disposing of Cambridge. "The FA Cup is a trophy and I'm living for trophies as a coach," he stated. "For me, personally, I want a trophy everywhere I work in my first season. We have a real chance now. We are the highest-ranked team in the FA Cup. Our status is of the highest club.

"People are maybe betting on us but I am not allowed!" he joked. "I am not a casino man. The highest-ranked teams have the better chance of winning."

Good Job Ashley!
